2002 Avalon Engine information

I have a 2002 Avalon and also a 2000 Tundra. Can anyone tell me if these vehicles have interference or non-interference engines ? If the timing belt breaks will it damage the engine ?
Thanks !!!!!!!!

Re: 2002 Avalon Engine information

http://www.gates.com/downloads/downl...older=brochure It appears they both have interference engines. Scroll to pages 21 and 23. Both have an * next to the engine type indicating an interference engine. Read the fine print at the bottom of every page. Should change the timing belt every 90K miles.

Re: 2002 Avalon Engine information

I just checked that link and since the Avalon was not differentiated from the standard Camry I thought I would look at the Lexus specs since I have always heard they had the same motor. The Lexus spec for the 3.0L V6 (1MZ-FE) does not have the * indicating interference but the same motor under Camry does have the * ?

Plus the 1MZ-FE in the RX300 does have the *. I'm suspecting a misprint. Might want to check with your dealer.

Re: 2002 Avalon Engine information

I spoke to the dealer who says it is a non interference engine. Hope the tech they asked was correct!
Thanks
