No power above 2100 RPM

I have yet another problem with my '04 2500 Duramax/Allison!
No matter what gear I'm in, once I hit 2100 rpm I lose power, in other words, I'm coasting. All electrical power is still there (steering, brakes, lights & radio). Say I'm taking off from a stop, 1st gear I have moving power upto 2100 rpm, and then I start coasting, trans shifts to 2nd gear rpms drop and power is back...upto 2100 rpm and than I'm coasting again. This is through all gears. Interstate driving, I decide to "get on it" to pass another vehicle, trans downshifts I gain speed until the rpms rise and hit 2100 and I'm back to coasting until the rpms come back down. Has anyone had this problem or any knowledge of whats going on? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks to all.

Well a couple things come to mind here.
1. When was the last time you replaced the fuel filter?
2. Is the MIL coming on
3. Do you have any aftermarket programmers on this truck.
4. what is the 8th digit of the VIN 1 or 2?

GMMerlin, thanks for your reply,
1. It has been a while probably 30,000 miles (after some other research, I believe (& hope) this might be the problem). I'll be changing the filter today.
2. MIL is not on.
3. I have no programmers or other aftermarket performance products installed.
4. The VIN's 8th digit is 2.

Re: No power above 2100 RPM

Fuel filter life on a Duramax engine is 15000 miles.

It's funny, you complain about what a POS your truck is, but you don't even take care of it and perform required maintenance

Re: No power above 2100 RPM

OK GMmerlin,
Tell me what I can do to prevent the ecm from throwing a code.
Tell me what prevents dash & steering backlight bulbs from blowing (11 bulbs in 2 1/2 years).
Tell me what I can do to help my power seats retain their memory settings & to prevent the seat adjustment switches & motors from going out.
Tell me how to get GM to redesign the steering shaft.
Tell me what to do to keep my stereo from resetting and ejecting my CDs.
Tell me how to get my A/C to operate properly (manual settings will not override auto & vice versa. Recirculate kicks on when in automatic mode, this is not supposed to happen).

You must remember that your truck is a piece of equipment made by man...it is not perfect and with any piece of equipment, parts can fail.
GM supplied you with a warranty against such defects for 3 years and 36000 miles..which is a good offer (find other things that have a warranty for that long....my new home came with a 1 year warranty and after 2 years a pipe in the wall burst because the builder ran a nail thru it...cost 14000 to have fixed...did the builder fix it..no it was out of warranty)
I own and work on GM products and have for over 20 years..do you think for a minute, I would own a GM vehicle if I knew they were junk?
The problem you mentioned in this thread appears to be a direct result of YOU not performing the recommended maintenance that your vehicle demands. Not because GM built an inferior product.
The Silverado/Seirra Duramax Allision trucks are of the highest quality and most technologically advanced diesel trucks of any built today.
I guarantee that you will not find quality and hi-tech features in the other trucks.
If you want to go back to Ford, go right ahead..I know a couple Ford techs and they scream about what POS the Ford diesel trucks are.

Re: No power above 2100 RPM

yes , i agree with gremlin. i have 2 ford diesels with the 6 litre diesels. they are forever breaking down. 200,000 kilometers on them, every time they go some where it costs me another injector. they are now parked until i can find some one stupid enough to buy a ford with a diesel.
