upgraged exhaust

ok..so i bought the borla exhaust set up from where it splits in to dual back..and then i had a muffler shop bend me some 2.25 piping to match..that elliminated my cat and muffler..now it sounds good till about 4000 rpms..then it kicks like a fart can noise out..i think its cuz there is no mufflers to be found on the whole exhaust except the 2 lil borla ones..also i only have 1 cat way up front now..so i figure if i get a good muffler..like borla or flowmaster it should get rid of the fart can noise at high rpms..what do any of you guys think??? let me know

Re: upgraged exhaust

do you have a NA or a TT? cuz i have a open down pipe and it kinda sounds like crap atl low rpm but when its high its sounds like all those super 3S's out there.

Re: upgraged exhaust

a) wondering why you went with 2.25" piping. I would have done 2.5" on an NA, some have even gone 3" and claim not to have lost too much low-end torque.

b) as far as the pitch, can't really tell you much, I would think you really just gotta try different things. That's the pain of exhausts, especially custom ones, you can never really know what pitch or droning noises it will produce until its on.

Re: upgraged exhaust

If you are trying to bring the "tone" down and not the "volume" you might want to splice in a resonator instead of a muffler...

Re: upgraged exhaust

Re: upgraged exhaust

Depends on you... i think the resonator is more what your after then the cat, but like igo said, it's hard to predict the exact sound when you start making custom exhausts...

Re: upgraged exhaust

Def. would have gone larger than 2.25. I currently have a 3 inch exhaust and it sounds nice and low.

Re: upgraged exhaust

ok my car was exactly the same way, cept i got dual magnaflows, u need a good resonator, just one bullet style ill be fine. the mufflers r good. 2.25 in my opinion is good enough if u dont have turbo and u got staright pipe. i have 2.5, but its not gonna win ya race or anything, if u already did it then its fine. just get a resonator put in, its hell with the farting noise.
