Re: Ek 96 CAm Gears

Is it adjustable? If it's adjustable, then it's worthless unless you have a reason to adjust the camshaft; aftermarket cam, milled head, forced induction. Unfortunately a lot of people don't know any better and just buy them for show. But unless you know how to correctly set your timing, have someone else install it for you. Nothing worse than installing something, only to have your car not start or run right because you installed it incorrectly.

Hard to say. It depends if the engine needs it or not. Even with some major modifications, you might not see any gains. But on a stock engine, you definently won't. Infact it's likely you will lose some power in your powerband depending on how it's adjusted.

Re: Ek 96 CAm Gears

major modifications would be an aggressive cam, higher compression pistons, milled head. What you have done doesn't require any kind of valve (cam) adjustment, so the cam gear won't do you any good. And some of there cam gears out there are pretty crappy to set up, and can mess up fairly easy. I worked on a car that had them, that needed to be adjusted using an allen key to tighten it down. We couldn't get them tight enough to stay put, and eventually both let loose and the timing was immediately f'd up.

Re: Ek 96 CAm Gears

even a stock motor with an adjustable cam gear can get gains, Advancing the cam timing to get a little more out of the lower rpms, or retarding the cam timing, and gaining more power out of the top end, with about 5degrees+/-, you will notice a difference, is it worth it on a stock motor? not really....and if you dont know how to put a timing belt on, i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself
