Please help me diagnose this.
I have a 2000 Sunfire GT 2.4L 118xxx kms, 5 speed.
The issue with this car is as follows. The rpm sticks while the car is being driven. For example when I start out in 1st gear the rpms will not drop when I engage the clutch and it does this with any gear, BUT when the car is sitting still it idles a little high ( say 1200-1400 rpm ) and the rpms go up and down with the accelerator pedal. Parts I've replaced. IAC,TPS, MAP, and the throttle body has been cleaned. When I remove the map sensor the car idles rough, when i remove the IAC it does not change a thing, and that is with a new one installed.. Any advice would be greatfull. Re: Please help me diagnose this.
I am guessing here so don't quote me on it. Check your choke and see if the it releases when the right oil temp is reached.

Re: Please help me diagnose this.
This sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you removed the throttle body to clean it the gasket may not have sealed. Also check the intake manifold area, all vacuum lines including the one to the brake booster.
High idle can be caused by the idle air control motor being bad. If you didn't change it you may want to either clean it or put on a new one. Good Luck! |

Re: Please help me diagnose this.
Did you check for codes?
With the engine idling, did you try blocking the iac passage in the throttle bore to see if there is any effect on the idle? |
