Question Manual valve body 700R4?

I have a 74 C-10 with a 383 and a 700R4. I heard that you can have a semi-automatic tranny with just a manula valve body. I like the idea of a semi- atuomatic. Any one know where I could info? Is it worth? How do they drive? Etc. Thanks.

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

holy shit im in almost the same boat as you!!! i have a 73 c-10 with a 383 waiting to be built and dropped in (just a shortblock is all i have now) and i also want to convert to a "semi-automatic," except im using my turbo400 tranny i already have.

i looked online and B&M sells kits for the th400 and more than likely the 700r4 also. they have simple shift improver kits as the most basic but these are hardly worth the time. i am looking into their "transpak" kits that are basically the shift improver kit for firmer shifts with an additonal amount of stuff that converts the tranny so that you can "manually" shift into any gear you want to. the best part is that for street use, you can just leave the selector in "D" and it will drive like a normal automatic, shifting by itself. im not sure if they sell the transpak kits for a 700r4, but its worth a shot looking to see.

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

actually, it looks like they do in fact make the kit as they have a part number for this application on the website...

70235 - Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Olds, Pontiac - '82-'93 TH-700R4 (4L60)

remember that for what you want, dont get just the shift improver kit, go with the "transpak" kit

heres a URL for the page:

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

no problem... i believe jegs or summit should have a price, then just print it off and take it to autozone with the part number because they have a policy that they will beat any competitors price. i think i saw it somewhere for about 70 bucks? well worth it and is actually what im gonna put into my turbo400 this spring when i get my 383 together

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

Thanks. Its 61$ and 66$ on Summit. It says it has more manual control but not for a 700R4 so I am going to do some research and see if its worth it. I all ready have a tranny guy that built a 700R4 for my dad's 3/4 ton suburban. Its a nice tranny so I'll ask him what the deal is. Thanks for your time I appreciate it. Should be fun if it works in my truck.

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

post what you find out... by the way, im assuming that you are relocating the shifter to the floor, since shifting on the column is just asking for accidentally shifting up two gears instead of just one. i lucked out and the dude before me put a cool little shifter out of a malibu or something in the floor and you just pop it up for each gear change. i used to powerbrake like nothing else with that mother trucker until i took the whole truck apart to restore it (its been two years, and thats a long time to have to drive a honda accord :-)

Re: Manual valve body 700R4?

I hear ya. I drive my girlfriends accord once in a blue-moon. Its new and not all riced out so I don't feel too guilty. Ya, I plan on moving to a floor shift. I just need to find one that looks good. I caught my sleeve on the column one time and shifted into revers going down the free-way. Oops. Luckily the truck is really light, if I would of got any traction at all bad stuff would of happened. lol Here in Afghanistan we drive Ford Ranger crew cabs with a diesel and a five speed. Not bad little trucks.
