Question Calling all diet 'ers

Hi all. As I posted a while back, I have started on my quest to "shape up". So far, working out is great, but I want to combine this with a good diet.

I have questions about what I can eat, and how often, etc...

Now the thing is, I dont want to make a thread about this, because im sure that its not of intrest to very many members, and I have quite a few questions.

Basically what I am asking is this. If you are willing to privide me with some advice, and listen to me complain, please post that would be willing to help, and I will pm you in a day or so.

Beware, you may be swamped with pm's

Also, if more than one of you posts that you would like to help my sorry cause, that would be great. Hell, I will take all the advice I can get.

Thanks for taking the time to read........

hey dude, i have had little extra weight packed in me (im not chubby or anything) but i did need to lose a good 30lbs.

Well 1.5 months later, here i am. 30lbs less. what i did was i didnt give a crap about what i ate, as long i kept it to 800 calories a day. Occasionally on friday's id eat a good dinner w/ family and upped to 1100-1200. But if you stick to eating 800 calories a day, you will lose 5 pounds a week for 6 weeks.

this is just not possible though. you need to workout at least 3-4 times a week (even more if your not lazy, lol). i went to the gym 3 days a week (still am), lifted weights for about 1-1.5 hours, then did cardiovascular (treadmill, strides, stuff like that) and burned about 400 calories. so in reality i was only eating 400 cal. a day.

2 KEY things about this:

1. you must drink a lot of water, even if you cant intake anymore, drink! Also, water must be your only source of liquid. at least, for the first couple of weeks, then you can have an occasional juice or soda.
2. Take multi-vitamin and mineral pills, you WILL NOT get your daily values from what your gonna eat, so these are necessary.

Diets are all about mentally handling them, never physically. If you put your mind to it and stick with it, you'll be losing weight in no time. and BTW, it feels so good to get compliments after, and you feel great too!

hope this helps

First and foremost, see a doctor if you're looking for a substancial weight loss, heck it's a good idea for any weight loss to see your doctor first.

Here's what worked for me. Cut down drastically on empty calories, sodas, beer, fries, candy, donut, etc. Eat only when you're humgry and just enough to be satisfied. It was amazing how my routine at work was just to eat to keep occupied. Now I carry fruits with me.

And most of all, exercise is really important. You don't have to kill yourself, but exercise is essential. A little at a time and you'll get there. Good luck.

800 Calories? Thats not much at all.

Some of the things that worked well for me included not counting calories. I ate several times a day so would never actually be hungry. I tend to overeat when hungry (as I think most people do). Eat smarter foods and keep working out and the act of burning calories will be what helps you lose weight faster.

Eating less will help lose weight but your body doesn’t want to lose it (as 90% of us can attest to). Your body will slow its metabolism in response to the lower intake of food. You must keep exercising even if its only a twenty minute walk every day.

Thanks all. I really appreciate all the tips and advice.

I will be sending out some pm's after work tonight. Basically I want to know what I should, and should not be eating. I am going grocery shopping friday or saturday, and want to know what I should buy.

I drink two protien shakes aday of 1850 calories each Plus a quart of rice before every work out. Not to mention that I eat pasta atleast oncee a day.

I've always taken the scientific approch to it. When you eat carbohydrates you body does one of two things with them. If you are active and your body needs them, it will make them into glucose and use it to fuel your body's cellular processes. But if it does not need any more fuel, then it turns it into fatty macro strings and stores it away. So if you don't eat many carbs and work out, your body will have no choice but to break down your fat and use it for fuel.

800 calories a day is way too low. Even for a woman wanting to lose weight they should never drop below 1200. 1250 calories is the lowest my nutritionist has ever put me on.

800 calories a day is plenty, in fact It worked so you can't argue. And on top of that, I don't even feel sick or anything, I FEEL GOOD!

Whether you know how to break down those 800 is the key or not. First, I woke up at around 1-2 during summer while I did this, so thats why it worked out good.

Start with a healthy shake (150 calories) along with an apple (50 cal, not sure) (1:30 or 2:00)

Theres 200 for your breakfast.

At lunch you eat about 500-600, eat whatever you would like. I usually went for a portion of steamed rice, chicken terayaki pieces, and a salad. (3:30-4:30)

If you are get hungry around 5 or 6, eat fruits! they are very healthy for you, and will control your hunger for the rest of the night.

The key is not to eat past 6:00. Also make sure to rotate around and try different foods so your body gets nutrients from everything. THE MOST IMPORTANT Thing, don't listen to none dieters, they don't know it like the dieters do! j/k

So I don't know what your all talking about, but 800 is enough to satisfy you for the whole day, if you use them right

If you are working out 800 calories is way too low. You burn off around 400 an hour doing intense exercise leaving you with 400 for the rest of the day. That’s insane! It may have worked for you as you are actually starving your body. When you return to normal eating again you are going to have a hard time keeping the weight from returning. 800 calories is what diets like Jenny Craig follow. Sure the weight comes off (as water), it’s bound to but as soon as you return to normal eating the weight comes back on. You are slowing your metabolsim down and losing muscle and water weight not fat. You really should be eating more than that and eating more often. You need to eat 5-6 times per day (broken into small meals) to keep your metabolism up. You don’t have to starve yourself to lose weight believe me I lost 16kg in 12 weeks eating 5-6 small high quality meals a day. I never once felt hungry either.

Geez, I only ever eat like a bagel and a piece of chicken or something all day, I dunno how many calories that is, but that's usually more than enough to satisfy me. I can usually go a whole day without eating anything without getting hungry until the next day. I think it all depends on the person. I'm very food efficient or something, I can eat just that much and then hike up a mountain for 3 hours no sweat (done it before) and not need food after I'm done. I'm like the turbodiesel VW Lupo of humans or something

You can survive on that much because you’re metabolism has slowed down to a crawl. There’s no way I could survive on that. If I don’t eat every few hours my body starts protesting.
