1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

(moved here from Car Comparison)
well...im planning to get a 99 Maxima SE 5 spd now and a friend of mine owns a Spec-V, his mods are intake, headers and the full Megen Exhaust system. I've been/driven in his car but i havent drove the maxima yet. Maxima's are rated at 190 hp 205 tq....spec-v has 175 hp 180 tq. I'll admit that his driving sucks, but my driving is probably far faster than his. The odds of him mis-shifting is like 2/10 times, he has no 6th gear too in his spec-v becuase of it being abused soooo much. i drove the Spec-V, MAD torque steer and it did pick up good from a luanch, but on the highway, My Tundra V8 beat him 3/5 races...so, who'd ya think will win from stop or roll? 1999 Maxima SE (5spd) or Spec-V with the basic bolt-ons and no 6 gear? reason why im getting a Maxima is becuase ALOT of people are going dsm and ALOT of dsm's now are breaking apart, plus, the maxima has potential and its a 4 door!!

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

i spanked a spec-v in my 95 SE 5 speed. i had a cat-back and intake at the time though and he was stock. i put a good 3-4 cars on him by 100. i don't get why the spec-v's 4 cylinder redlines lower than the maxima's V6. that QR25 motor is poo.

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

^^^It is poo, i mean i expected more after his mods, Plus i forgot to tell you guys that he has gone through one motor and his new one now is off from an automatic 02 nissan altima qr25. Hey BP2K2Max, those 4gen maxima are pretty strong though rite? i havent driven a maxima yet, but i hear they have potential. i was thinkin about just doin the basic performance parts, intake, headers, y-pipe, cat back exhaust system...than any small mods i can think of now.

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

4th gens are awesome. here's a couple pics of my 95.

it had a stillen cat back, budget y pipe and Weapon R intake and that thing moved real well.
most people don't realize it but they're really pretty light for their size. the registration on my 95 had it listed as 2895 lbs, that's like 3-400lbs lighter than a taurus, v6 accord, camry, acura CL, etc. also the VQ30 takes to mods well, just a y pipe adds as much as 17 whp. i miss my old car, if i get the chance I'd like to buy another one and go turbo.

If you want to save some gas...get the Spec-V. I would personally get the Maxima, more space good power and crazy reliable.

gas is good on the spec-v? i dont know about that one because my friend's spec-v with the mods arent saving alot of gas. i think its just his driving or it might just be the mods. but yeah, thanks!

2of9, the 96 4th gen I had was awesome. If I had the money then and it had the low mileage of my 5th gen, I would have kept it.

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

I have a 97 Max 5-speed. I ran the 1/4 mile against a Spec-V.
My mods: Stage 1 ACT clutch+finished tires(on the wear mark)
His mods: HAI, Cat-Back, and something else I think he said.

He was 1/2 to 1 car length ahead.

The Max is so much more classy then the Spec-V and the Max engine won'T blow on you. I was a saleman for 2 weeks at a Nissan Dealer and the QR25's were always in for head gaskets. I have 203000 miles on the VQ and It still has whoop.

Go for the Max.

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

the qr25 isnt a horrible motor, the redline is because all of its displacement comes from a ridiculous 101mm (iirc) stroke. even the SCCA race car only redlined at 6900, because at that rpm it has higher piston speeds than an F1 car. theres not alot you can do to change it, besides destroking the motor, which would make it pointless to even get a spec v.

that said, your maxima should beat a spec v that has no 6th gear. the only thing that i would think would change the outcome, is the qr25 responds very very well to bolt-ons. better than pretty much any other 4 banger. so he might get you by 2nd gear a little, but you should pull all over him after that.

stock for stock pretty close i bet, with his mods he might be a bit faster than you, not sure as all cars are in different running condition, different weights, etc.

I just got my 99 5spd, all I can say is its amazing. Definately better than the Sentra. It also has class, something you cant put on a Sentra no matter how much you try.

Re: 1999 Maxima SE vs Sentra Spec-V..??

nice videos guys...but doesnt some 02 maximas have the vq35 or was it 03+? i dunno, but i drove a maxima se (auto) at work today and im seriously loving it. i think the Maxima seriously has more "classic/luxury" spots to it than the Spec-V. Spec-v seems too teen-ish to me anyways. but yeah....hopefully this Maxima will shut my friends all talk about having the fastest car in minnesota...(ahahhahahha lmaox22222222)
