Got my LS!!

Well I decided to up the timeframe in which I bought my LS from spring, to NOW!! I bought an 01 LS on Friday at a dealership I used to work for. The stats:

2001 (medium)blue LS
Grey heated leather
No moonroof
69k miles
Was out the door for $13,000 w/ tax & title. So ~$12,169.XX for the car on their $13,988.00 asking price.

The car runs perfect! Suspension feels great, no front end rock chips, and everything seems nice and sound.

There are 2 things though that I need to look at.

1: Driver door handle at one point wouldn't open the door. I had to open it from the inside. It doesn't feel really solid I guess you could say.

2: Passenger front door-ding strip is coming off slightly. I see that the doors actually have holes where as my SVT doesn't, making it easy to just remove these strips. Is there a special adhesive that they use to put these on? Anything you guys have found to work?

I'm going to do some searching, but thought I'd stir up a little conversation and see if anyone has come up with anything new. Thanks in advance!!

Mark

Re: Got my LS!!

Congrats Y2K, I would just use some standard heavy duty adhesive - maybe Liquid Nails from Home Depot (just joking) and some type of clamp to hold it down over night. Make sure you clean both surfaces really good before gluing it.

How does the rear windows work? If the regulators havn't gone yet they probably will soon. Also, it's a good idea to remove the spark plug sheilds and inspect the inards for leaking oil. As well as outside the valve covers. Those valve cover gaskets are notorious for deterioriating.

Ignore the above chuckle head - I'd say you paid market for an 01 LS w/ 65k.. Enjoy.

Re: Got my LS!!

Hey, some replies!! Haha.

As for the door ding strip, I went to Ford to see what they use. I ended up getting a 2-sided piece of 3M tape for about $.67 for a foot of it.

The rear windows work fine, but trust me, I'm keeping the locks on them, and NEVER rolling them down!

I checked for leaks at the valve covers, as I knew this was another problem with these cars. Everything looked good! At initial startup(idle), it does seem to have a little bit of hesitation. I might just go ahead and replace the valve cover gaskets and plugs to be on the safe side, and let my mind rest.

Also, a week after I picked it up, I had the coolant issue I've seen talked about. Was showing an overheating condition, so I shut it down. Coolant was low, so I filled it up, along with the hydraulic fan coolant(ATF). Brought it into Ford, and they split the bill with me at employee cost(ex-employee). So got the upgraded parts for $270 total.

Oh, and I turned the easy-entry off, so the seat no longer moves with inserting and removing the key from the ignition. Hopefully I never see that airbag light come on!!

Re: Got my LS!!

Here's some stuff if interested, (and no I'm not selling them). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Lin...QQcmdZViewItem I didnt actually use them like suggested I put one badge on rear pillar (or what ever its called) rear roof post between rear window and rear side window. Looks good , its like a thin piece of metal, says vinyl in ad but I dont see or feel vinyl in it at all, plus I have 2 extras for later. What color is your car? I put on a black license plate on front like this one but mine is gloss black with chrome logo, Oklahoma just have to have rear plate, dont know about your state http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Linco...QQcmdZViewItem or something like this for rear http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Linco...QQcmdZViewItem but It maybe to big, I know its tight, I put a black raised beveled on rear of mine from O'reillys looks good. and I put on a set of these fender ports , it looks great, I had a guy in a LS turn around and chased me down and ask me where I got em, and so far had 8 guys ask about them just walked up when parked somewhere. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Escal...QQcmdZViewItem did other things like custom pinstripe. (neat looking medium green on black paint) oh and just got in mail today OEM splash guards, not on ebay right now but this link may show expired page that I got mine , they may relist later http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Linco...QQcmdZViewItemand wednesday suppose to get four tires and wheels, that I won auction on, 17'' , if this link works this is not my car or the actual wheels , just pic of same kind of wheels .. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8570&rd=1&rd=1 , good luck.

Re: Got my LS!!

Here's some more Lincoln stuff, I'm going to get the black ballcap & Lincoln travel mug, but I think I can get these ordered at a Lincoln or Ford Dealer for same price W/O paying shipping cost, I'll have to check on it. After clicking link scroll down to bottom left, lincoln should already be typed in search window, just click submit. (it may take you to lincoln page w/o clicking submit button) http://www.fordcollection.com/defaul...e=0|999&srch=1

Re: Got my LS!!

Here's some splash guards, the same as the ones I got but alot cheaper, I paid 75 bucks plus shipping. These are only 23.50 plus 11.00 shipping, unless there is more than one bidder. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LINCO...QQcmdZViewItem
