Electrical issues??
Bought a 98 Rodeo 2wd last night at auction. Runs/drives great, but noticed something wierd...When driving down the highway if we flip the lights to high beam it kicks out of overdrive. Flip back to low beam and kicks back into overdrive. Did it several times. HELP PLEASE ! ! !

Check the grounds and battery cables. Have the alternator and battery tested. These trucks do weird things when there is an electrical problem.

aggreed. the trannies do weird things with weak batteries or alts on the way out.

You may want to check all fuses and relays too for full function. I have seen vehicles draw current from other sources when a circuit loses it's own power source. This is highly unlikely but a quick meter of all the fuses wouldn't hurt. At least it would be part of the process of elimination.
Checking the grounds wouldn't hurt as already stated. When I was installing my amps under the front seats there were two large ground points under the center console. In my case both grounds were coated with coffee or Coke... (Just bought my 2001 Rodeo Sport last month)... which if the ground bolt is loose would cause a serious contact issue, especially with a substance like Coke coating the entire contact area. Since those grounds are so close to the transmission they may be the direct grounds for the wiring associated with it. The battery is usuaully the primary cause of electrical issues since they are known for corrosion build up. I will suggest as a precaution to remove the battery terminals and clean the battery post and the inside of the clamp to ensure 100% quality contact. Low voltage to the vehicle will make all 12v electronics get buggy. Have Autozone do the free check to make sure the battery is actually good. Hopefully the cuase of the issues is something easy such as one of the suggestions thus far. Good luck in your effort to fix the issue! Have fun! johngyver
