HELP! VIN location?

Looking at buying a rolling chassis from a 2002 Silverado. I want to know what the engine code is from the VIN. The body was sold and the guy that has it doesn't know the VIN. What part of the Chassis will have the VIN on it?

If nothing else, does anyone know if a 4.3 for the 2002 Silverado is a W or X engine?

Uh, yeah I said that... Both W and X are for the 4.3.

Are you saying that the 02 Silverado comes with the "W" engine code not the "X"?

Not sure if this helps much but I know W is for the 99-00 4.3L engines. X might be for the 01+ ???

I assume that is the one. The "W" should be the HO engine while the "X" is/was the "standard" 4.3 engine. I had hoped that the full size trucks had the HO engine as standard equipment since that is the engine I am needing... Thanks.

Look in your owner's manual and search the crank case capacity.
It will tell you what the Letter is for each available engine engine..

I said I am LOOKING AT BUYING A ROLLING CHASSIS. I don't have an owner's manual. He doesn't have an owners manual. He sold the body and doesn't have it to look at the VIN number. THIS is why I asked the questions you can't seem to comprehend.

Second.. I told you what the VIN letter is and you did not believe me.
Third.. you can download the the User Manual online.
So before you start wasting people's time, do a little research before you start insulting people on the forum.

Kinda strange the person that has the body/cab does not know the VIN No.
Who has the title or regestration on it?

That would be the first thing I would ask for.
Do get into hot water on that deal.

haha!!!! yeah thats about the only part of my truck that is from 1973!!! the frame and cab shell... other than that i could say it's a 2007

That isn't what I asked. I know that. You didn't say, "The 4.3 in a 02 Silverado is a W engine."

Also, I don't know exactly what the thing is because I haven't seen it. I just know that it is listed as an 02 chassis with a 4.3. It sure as hell isn't faster to download a manual when I can ask people that normally would know the answer. I didn't insult anyone. I told you that your posts are a waste of space because you didn't say anything that wasn't already there. As far as research, what the heck do you think asking questions in a forums is? Get over yourself. If you don't have anything productive to say find another thread to post pointless messages in.

Now... As far as the chassis without a title, the title went with the body since it was sold(he says) to a guy that rolled his truck. He appears to not have had the common sense to write down the VIN, or the ability to find the VIN on the Chassis. It isn't my fault if the guy doesn't want to look for it and I am not going to drive that far just to look around on it for the VIN if I am not prepared to purchase it on the spot.

THEREFORE, I wanted those that may HAVE or KNOW someone that has a similar truck to look at THEIR VIN and tell me what the engine code is. It appears that ALL the Silverado trucks have the "W" engine. That is all I needed to know. No sense in reading or adding more to it than what it was.

If you read the posts you see that the person DOESN'T have the body OR the cab. If he did, I wouldn't have been here TRYING to ask a few simple questions.

Basically, if you don't have a Silverado with a 4.3 or don't know what place on the frame or other part of the chassis of a Silverado has the VIN on it, there isn't any reason for you to be posting. I am not asking for opinions or suggestions. I only want what I asked for. Is that so difficult for eveyone?

Good job... Now since you have figured that out, go to this guys house and show him the location of the VIN on the frame. Or better yet, go look at it and then post it here.

I am thinking about buying a 02 chassis. The guy that has it doesn't have the VIN number anymore. The title went with the body. He doesn't appear to be able to look over the frame to find the VIN. He said he would tell me if I could tell him what part to look at. I asked people in a forum that DRIVE these trucks if they know where the VIN is at on the frame or other part of the vehicle OTHER THAN the cab or door frame.

I need HIM to look at the VIN so I can make sure the engine code is for the HO engine and not the base model (X) engine. I assume it would be but don't want to just assume. I want to know for fact.

Therefore, if you have a 02 or similar Silverado or GM truck and know where the VIN is located on the frame...

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TELL ME!!! LOL!

I hope that covers all the bases!
