Reset Oil change light

I am unable to reset my Change Oil Light. It has worked in the past using the procedure of key in "ON" and depressing accelerator 3 times, but now it does not go out.

3x in 5 seconds to the floor, try it again.

Re: Reset Oil change light

It took me at least ten attempts to get mine to go out for some reason. I know the timing was inside 5 seconds. Make sure you go all the way to the floor when you try again.

Re: Reset Oil change light

Turn the key to the "ON" position. Depress the accelerator 3 times in 5 seconds. WAIT!!!! the "change oil light" will start to flash. After it stops, turn the key back to"off".

Re: Reset Oil change light

The oil light will come on for about 1 minute upon every start of my 1998 Intrigue. Any ideas why it does this?

Thanks,

Wes

Re: Reset Oil change light

Oil level is fine. This has been going on for about a year. Doesn't matter if it's right after an oil change.

Disconnect the battery overnight in case there is an electrical elf at play.

The next time you change oil, make sure the engine is totally hot, i.e., you have driven 50 miles. There is a chance that if you have been changing the oil while the engine is cold that over the years sludge has built up around the sensor.

The sensor has gone bad. Change the sensor. If it was my car I would just live with it and change the oil on a regular basis.

Reminds me of the time the exterior temperature sensor started to act funny,,,,,giving a reading of 46F when the actually outside temp was 97F. Sprayed the sensor with cleaner and wiped off all the road grime off of it and it worked like new.

Add some Marvel Mystery OIl to the Crankcase 100 miles before you change the oil. Hope this helps.

Re: Reset Oil change light

Thanks for the reply. I will try disconnecting the battery and see if that helps. I always change my oil every 5000 KMs (I'm in Canada) and always do it when it's hot.

Guess we'll see if the battery trick works. I would live with it, but I'm going to be selling it and trying to explain to the perspective owner that it just "does that" and that there is nothing wrong with it, can be a challenge.

Thanks,

Wes
