Weird Noise in Steering Column
I've noticed, just in the last two or three weeks, a noise in my steering column when I turn left or right. At work, I have to drive up two levels in a parking deck, and when I make those turns, whether it's the right turns going in, or the left turns coming out, it sounds like a wind is whistling through the column. It can't be that, though, as I'm only going about 3 MPH either way. Anyone else heard of this?

Re: Weird Noise in Steering Column
You may be hearing fluid flowing through the assist valving in the steering gearbox, and the noise can be transmitted up the column through the shaft.

I have that same problem. Do you know if that should be ignored or will it turn into a bigger problem?

Re: Weird Noise in Steering Column
There's a good chance this could be an intermediate shaft in the column itself that's drying out. There's a TSB out there from GM to address this concern. In most cases, there's a kit available from GM to repack the shaft.
