Lock Horn Beep

Anybody know how to switch on the "horn beep", when you push the remote control (lock) for the second time? I drive an alero in Belgium, Europe, and I think the dealer deleted that function...how can i fix it, so I can know that my car is locked when I hear de horn.
(Alero 2001, 2,4 )
Thanks

Re: Lock Horn Beep

On a US Alero we get the horn beep and the parking lights will flash twice when remote lock button is pressed. Hopefully, the Euro Chevrolet Alero body control module (BCM) is programmed similar.

To enable the horn chirp/beep press and hold either the door lock or unlock button on the remote for 10 seconds with ignition to ON and all of the doors closed. When you hear the horn beep programming is complete. Good luck.

Re: Lock Horn Beep

I did exactly what you wrote...there's nothing happening when I push the remote lock or unlock button for 10 seconds...Maybe they cut a wire or something?

The question I have is was the horn beep function working before or did it stop working after you had work done on your Alero? It doesn't make sense to cut any wire and that would have to be done at the BCM connectors. Do you have the panic button on the remote?

Re: Lock Horn Beep

No, it never worked. Strange, isn't it?
I have a panic button on the remote, and that's works fine, the horn sounds when I push that red button.

Re: Lock Horn Beep

Well, at least the panic part works.

Do you know if this is supposed to work on the Euro Alero? There may be programming differences at the BCM level since it is the device that handles anti-theft and RKE functions. The BCM provides a a low/ground (short pulse) to the horn relay when lock is pressed.

Re: Lock Horn Beep

I never heard a horn beep of any car here in Europe when people lock a car.
I guess the only thing I can do, is to buy a new BCM (american),and replace it...

It must be some Euro thing. Is it illegal? Weird.

Problem with the American BCM is emissions programming and the speed limiter and that may not work unless the wiring matches. Also, when you replace a BCM module it must be programmed by the GM dealer. Solution does not sound easy.

Good luck.
