1995 Eighty Eight Engine Coolant Temperature
Hello, I was wondering what the normal engine coolant temperature was on my eighty eight. Mine runs around 230 degrees. Seems a little hot to me.

Re: 1995 Eighty Eight Engine Coolant Temperature
my 92' olds 88 runs about 150 degrees warm, pretty cold if ya ask me, but the new radiator and seperate trans cooler make a differene, as well as your antifreeze/water mix... i believe at 1995 they shoudl still run 30/70 (AF to water)
If it's runnign hot first i would change coolant, older coolant that ionizes (common in the v6 blocks) will nto cool as efficiently as fresh fluids. After i would check and ensure that the front of the car has ample breathing into the radiator as flow resitriction will cause problems, also ensure that fans are working properly and that there are not bent fins on the radiator. After these check out i would target your thermostat as improper function will amek teh car think that it's running too cold and attempt to warm it up by setting the fans in the delay setting, keep em from running. Commonly on interstate travel they go into delay after a long period of use as the radiator will cool efficently enough to not run the fans at high speeds. Hope this is some help! |

Re: 1995 Eighty Eight Engine Coolant Temperature
I think the thermostats are opening at 175. It should regulate it to about 190. You have a coolant restriction problem somewhere. Radiator or even the thermostat itself. They are cheap and easy.
Check it out... Good Luck.
