93 - installing a new engine
Can anyone give feedback on installing a new engine? The current engine has 220k and recently burned up after running with a coolant leak. Engine still will run but with lots of white smoke so I know at least the head gaskets are blown. I figure I would like to just replace the whole thing than take a chance on just the heads. Sucks because I just had the transmission rebuilt for $800. I'm not sure how bad it will be, but an $800 engine and a few weeks of work sound better than $16k and 5 years of a monthly payment. Any comments?

Re: 93 - installing a new engine
I'd suggest you upgrade... Check out www.astrosafari.com and research a V8 swap. If you're going to change motors anyway.....

Re: 93 - installing a new engine
I decided to rip off the heads first before making any decisions. Maybe I got lucky and it is just the head gasket. There is definitely antifreeze in the oil and it blows a lot of white smoke when I can get it started. I can't see anything running from the side of the heads so maybe it is a good sign.
