mods for windstar

I just found out that for the 6 months after i get my lincense, i will be driving my moms 2000 windstar LX 3.8. Theres no problems with it, but i was curious if theres any simple mods for it, i.e., air filter, wires, muffler, tranny cooler simple stuff like that. Any help is great. thanks

Re: mods for windstar

Haven't done any real work on mine yet apart from buying a computer based scan tool.

The first thing to consider is upgrading the lighting by switching to some LED lights. Interior are great cause there are so many. Try body color on the lower and super bright white on the overheads. If you are crazy enough, play with lightwire or electroluminescent.

The other cool thing is the amount of space in a windstar. Big enough for a home entertainment system I personally think that an in-car PC with wireless internet is a must for a windstar. You can do nice things like moving map gps, music collection that you can change from your house thanks to the wireless, etc.

Anyway, I'm a lighting guy so those would be my non-definitive, non-authoritative, first places to try.

It really depends on what you want to do. Filter, wires and exhaust mod imply you're looking for performance. The tranny cooler sounds like you want to tow!

Many engine mods available for the V6 Mustang crowd are applicable to the Windstar 3.8 - but drag strip performance isn't what the Windstar was designed for.

Re: mods for windstar

ive considered changing the light bulbs, but im only gonna have it for 6 months, then either my dad takes it or we sell it so, i dont want to drop tons of money into it. As for the tranny cooler, i highly doubt id ever tow anything, but i know im probly gonna be harder on the car then my mom was, so since its an auto i though a tranny cooler might be good idea since there cheap. Thanks for the help guys

This album:

...includes some pictures of my Windstar auxiliary tranny cooler installation (among other things). Yes, in general, the transmission is the weak point of most minivan drivetrains; an auxiliary cooler can help.

Re: mods for windstar

Lights would still be a practical choice if you only have it for a short time. A tranny cooler will be going with van when you get rid of it. Most of the mod lighting like the LED are practically lifetime bulbs. Just put in the lighting you like and save the old bulbs. When you get rid of the van swap them back. You still have those LEDs for your next car or you can sell them on ebay.

The problem with the engine mods is you can't really simply reverse them - but they do make a cool thing for experience.
