I have a '99 Durango, 5.2L, 4WD. Around last spring it started doing the random hard start, won't idle, dies if you take your foot off the accelerator pedal condition. As others here have mentioned, the ONLY remedy was to disconnect the battery long enough to clear the ECM memory. Then it would run fine for weeks or months.
The other day, it just quit on my wife. It stalled suddenly in middle of road, and wouldn't restart. Had to be towed home. I checked everything I could. Spark was fine, but no fuel. Starter fluid would start engine. Power was good, right through fuel pump relay, but couldn't hear pump prime with key. So, replaced fuel module. After replacement, and fuel lines primed, truck started right up. Recently, it had also developed the no speedo, brake light on, ABS light on, won't shift condition. So while under there, I replaced the rear ABS sensor as recommended. The speedometer now functions and the brake lights went out, but trans still wont shift. As I drove up and down the street trying to diagnose the trans shift issue, the darn thing stalled out on me too, and wouldn't restart. I had to push it home. No start with starter fluid, no pump prime with key. That's when I noticed the "NO BUS" message in the odometer display. I'm thinking I MUST have a bad ECM. But looking at various forums, it seems most have fixed the stalling/no start by replacing shorted engine sensors, i.e. crank, cam, IAC... The fuel module cost me a few $$, and I hate to buy another big ticket item on a whim. Right now it starts, but I don't dare to drive it anywhere... not to mention it still wont shift. Thoughts anyone? |

Re: ECM/PCM/ECU bad???
Based on my experience with my 99 D with a 318, you've got a bad PCM. Mine had similar issues around 65K milies and flashed the "No Bus" code. If you research this site, you'll find more folks who had similar problems. My first PCM was still covered under the 7 / 70 powertrain warranty at the time. Now at around 160K miles I've been having idle issues. To this point, I've traced it back to another PCM problem. I'm just trying to figure out how to get it rebuilt without having the truck down for a minimum of 2-3 weeks.
Let us hear back on how you make out. |
