Brake Pad clips

My front brakes are noisy(sweaky) when I am about to come to a stop.
I would like to change the front brake pads and use some brake quiet.

I myself have never replaced brake pads on a Geo Metro (1995), I have done other GM cars though. My question is, there are what looks like retainning clips. Do these clips come off with the caliper when pulling out, or do they have to be pryed off before.

Re: Brake Pad clips

The Metro is one of the easiest cars to change brake pads on, you"ll be suprised how easy it is. If I remember right, just remove the calipers and the retaining clips should be part of the brake pad itself. Just slide off the retaining clips and add them to your new brake pads, don't forget to put brake pad quieting grease on all the areas where the caliper touches the brake pads.

Re: Brake Pad clips

Well, to tell you the truth, I'm not so sure about the ease and simplicity of pad replacement.

Maybe it's a piece of cake 90% of the time....

But shen I had my front wheel bearing replaced earlier this year, all the clips on the driver's side caliper were gone, so I had to buy a bag of hardware. It cost about 35 bucks, at Advanced Auto Parts, full retail. There were 4 or 5 complete sets of clips/springs, per side, and my mechanic couldn't even figure out which ones were supposed to go where. Not even after taking off the wheel on the other side, because that side was missing some clips, too.
