Urine in the gas tank.

Hi, my 99' Cavalier was recently vandalized by a bunch of punks who peed in my gas tank, and god knows what else. The car worked fine for about a week and a half after the incident.

When I tried to start my car the engine wouldn't turn over. I took it to a mechanic who told me my fuel pump was bad and needed to be replaced. I'm wondering if the vandalism can be linked to the fuel pump failure.

Thanks for your time.

Lol, thats got to be the worst thing Ive heard done to a cavy so far. But if you have any proof that it was infact them and had enough money to persue the case, im sure you could make it where they have to pay for it.

Re: Urine in the gas tank.

Well first I need to find out if urine has the capacity to ruin a fuel pump in the first place. I'm thinking it might just be the car crapping out.

It depends on what they ate/drank. Urine contains different elements depending on your diet...ew that's gross, lol.

Thanks for your time.
I used to have a tomcat inside the garage that would do that to parts and tools.
But he is no longer around.
It rusts or corrodes up everything it gets on.
If you have good comp insurance they should take care of it for you.
I would say you have a good case on it runinng the fuel pump.
The tank should be cleaned to and if any of it got threw the fuel filter good by injectors and sometimes corrods up fuel lines inside.
Call your insurance agent/adjustor.
Good Luck

Re: Urine in the gas tank.

how full was your tank? i'd think it'd have to be pretty empty for someones piss to dillute it, the average piss is probably about a cup, thats 1/16 of a gallon, i doubt that'd do anything to a full tank with 15 gallons

i remember one time pouring a half a gallon of water mixed heavily with sugar into someones tank, and it didnt do a damn thing

Re: Urine in the gas tank.

It was multiple people peeing--I don't know how many. But the tank was probably at about 1/2.

But yeah, about the sugar, sounds like pee wouldn't do much. Thanks jake and everyone else for the input.

Anything water based will not mix with the gas.
It lays in the bottom of the tank and if the fuel pump sock picks it up it will stop up the sock and or if any gets threw the sock it will stop up the fuel filter.
Since you are replacing the fuel pump anyway have the tank cleaned at the same time.
And check your comp insurance if you have it they should pick up the bill.
Good luck

How much beer was they drinking two or 3 cases. This could make a big difference on the amount.
