06 GT Cams

Ok, I'm not here to cause trouble or anything, but I got a buddy with an 06 GT, Cervini's body kit, full exhaust and ram air and he is looking into cams for his car, but he and I can't seem to find a company that makes/sells them. Do you guys know of anyplace that sells them. We found one company but the cams were expensive as hell and didn't produce that much power. Thanks for your help guy.

Re: 06 GT Cams

Staight cam swap really is not going to net you that much power. Heck, for the price, I would put it towards a blower myself.

Vortech install will take you about the same time, although the water line mod is sort of a pain

Really, I'm not too familar with OHC engines, I'm (obviously) more of a pushrod guy. I was wondering why the 'stage 2' cams only put out 15 more hp than the "stage 1" from that company that I can't remember. But he was looking into blowers as well, ATI, vortech, or magnacharger. But does KB make a blower for the 06 GT's? I know those cobras with the KB blower are nasty. Thanks for the help.

Re: 06 GT Cams

Only problem is the KB is on all the time, so milage is going to suck! For torque, its right up there with turbos. But, with turbos and centi blowers they are only on when you load them.

As for 06, I am petty sure all 05 stuff fits

I am a push rod type of guy myself

me2, but i do think ford might be on to something with the 3v motors.

as for superchargers...http://www.procharger.com/2005_mustang.shtml kinda pricey tho. maybe a custom turbo job would be cheaper.

Re: 06 GT Cams

The only problem that I've heard of about those prochargers are their 'self-lubiricating' system. The blower doesn't get fresh oil and the enclosed oil builds up heat, and as we all know, heat is bad.

And I just got a chance to look at those links and the cams on blowbyracing are the same ones we found on a different site. Neither of us were really impressed for the price. Plus, I was somewhat disappointed in the power output of the cams. 30-40 hp out of a stage 2 cam? That doesn't sound like a lot. I thought the OHV engines would benifit more from cams. I've seen pushrod LSx motors gain 80-100hp from a cam swap, and still be streetable (not to brag or start something, just comparing from my experience). Plus, I don't know if I like the sound of re-ground cams, but I guess its up to him. I wonder why there aren't more options for the '05-'06 GT in the cam department. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: 06 GT Cams

there arent more options because the 3 valve design is new in 2005. so this engine has only been around for 2 or 3 years. it takes some time for the aftermarket to develope as much as say a sbc of a ford 302. if you look for cams for the windsor engines or the 2v or 4v ohc engines there are a lot more.

Re: 06 GT Cams

As for hp gains, it depends on what you start with Plus the limit is on the exhaust side of the house. It all come down to physics, there is no magical mechanical god that chevy knows about, that Ford does not

I, like most of the guys here grew up on Fords. I know more about Ford engines, but if a killer Chevy engine drops in my lap, I will take it

Yeah, I didn't even think about the 3V design. Is that third valve for the exhaust or intake? And does anybody have a pic of the design of the heads for these cars? I am slightly intrigued now.

Re: 06 GT Cams

That's cool. Thanks for the pic. I was wondering how they would fit 3 valves on a single camshaft. Thanks for all the help guys.
