Remote Starter Info
Hey has anyone put a remote starter in their Jeep Cherokee? I'm thinking about asking for one for Christmas from my wife but I'm not sure what's good, what's not etc. Also the difficulty of installing it. I'm pretty proficient at working on it myself, I've changed taillight wiring, window regulator, etc. Any insights would be helpful.

Re: Remote Starter Info
remote starters can be a little tough to install if you've never done one before. I get them done in about 2 hours or less. A novice would take about a day maybe 2 to work things out.
www.directed.com and www.compustar.org are going to be the 2 best companies to work with. You can find some of their stuff online at good prices but usually you'll lose the lifetime warranty. That Prestige unit is an OK unit. It gets about 400-600' real world working range with maybe a little more out in a corn field. The biggest problem is that the remotes fail after about 18months of use and they won't warranty remotes. DEI stuff is usually rated at about 1/4 mile range while a comparable Compustar unit has 1/2 mile range or even up to 2 miles on their top of the line unit. Goto www.bulldogsecurity.com and look up your car's info to see if it's something you'll want to tackle.
