I will replacing stock T-stat with 180, Do I need to drill a hole in it?

My check engine light came on and the code shows P0128.
My car is stock for now, I will be changing the pulley to a 3.4 eventually, so I will be going with a 180 T-stat from a local parts store....What size hole and were do I drill it.....Is the T-stat easy to replace?
Thank you
Scott

you dont need to drill a hole in it. you can buy drilled ones. the only purpose for a drilled one is to keep a constant flow of coolant going through the engine. if its not drilled from the facotry i wouldnt bother. it dosent make THAT much of a difference. the tstat is easy to reaplce.

~find the big hose on drivers side of the radiator
~follow that hose to the engine
~place bucket right under that area(clean bucket)
~locate the 2 bolts holding on the football shaped piece(housing) {10mm i believe}
~undo the radiator cap
~unscrew the 2 bolts and pull the hose and housing off
~pry out the old t-stat
~clean off the old gasket really really well but dont scratch the surface or youll leak in the future
~place the new rubber O-ring on the new thermostat and place the new thermostat in the housing
~screw the top back on
~refill coolant to proper level
~BLEED SYSTEM OF ALL AIR

i think that pretty much covers it

very easy to do

Re: I will replacing stock T-stat with 180, Do I need to drill a hole in it?

I installed the 180 temp gauge T-stat , thanks 98gpking for the info. The car idled for 30 minutes, the temp gauge stayed around 185 degrees, I never really noticed the fans running only when I first started the car because I had the heat on,then I turned it off, I had some condensation coming out of the exhaust tips.... My check engine light is still on.....Will I have to clear the trouble code with a scan tool or do I still have a problem?

im not sure what that code means. uumm you could try to clear the code my guess is that its going to come back. the thermostat is not part of the OBDII system so the new thermostat shouldnt have anything to do with the emssion system.

unless it was bad any uor car was overheating the maybe,,,,but id get the code checked on and see what it means
