Setup Questions

okay so i figured i would run my set up plans for my 99 gst past by you guys and girls to see what you think and get some questions answered.

evo 3 16g turbo
evo 3 exhaust mani
evo 3 o2 housing
megan exhaust down and cat back
dsm link
550cc injector
walbro fuel pump
greddy type s bov
gm maf

now for my questions... are the 550cc injectors too small or should i upgrade? 2 1/2" exhaust or 3"? do i need a apexi safc with the dsm link?

so those r my questions and my set up so i was wondering if i can just get some input.

Re: Setup Questions

Personally if you are going to be running DSMlink, go big. 550's would be pushing it anyway with that turbo. Go with a 3" exhaust. You do not need an SAFC with DSMlink.

Re: Setup Questions

1) No need for an evo 3 exhaust mani, keep your stock one.
2) I'd go with bigger injectors, but that's just a personal thing.
3) 3" full exhaust
4) No need for the safc if you're getting Link.
5) Any other questions?

Re: Setup Questions

Yup, you wont need SAFC with DSMlink. Skip the Evo III exhaust mani and o2 sensor housing. The stock manifold and porting the stock 02 housing should do you completely fine. 3" exhaust is what you need to go for. I would suggest like 650's for injectors, they are cheap and can easily support that Evo III 16g. You can get away with a Walbro 190 but I would go with a 255 if you plan on maxing that turbo out. Also, if you get the 255 you will need an aftermarket FPR, but the 190 should be ok on the stocker FPR. Also, I would skip out on the GM MAFT, that stock 2g MAF is going to be fine on that turbo. If venting is really that big of a deal to you then thats how you'd want to get 'er done, but I hear they are a bastard to calibrate. Also, that Type S is discontinued, you might have to go with a RS or something.

Also, watch how many times you click the post thread button. I got you this time but next time you might not be so lucky... Just playin man.

Re: Setup Questions

why no evo 3 manifold isnt it a bigger inlet for the turbo then the stock one? and i thought if i didnt want to reciruclate the BOV i would need the gm maf? as far as the type s i actually have one already and its real not the ebay one... its from my 94 gst. miss that car.

and thanks thor for taking care of that double post.

thanks for the feed back. keep it coming.

Re: Setup Questions

You don't need the evo manifold, it's hardly what I would call an upgrade (more of an UPDATE) over the stocker, and if you port the stocker, you'll have more room than what you can flow anyways. And like Thor said, if you want to vent, then you could go with the MAFT (not maf), but they're a bitch to tune and for what? So you can have a louder BOV? Not worth it IMO.

Re: Setup Questions

If you're not recirculating the air from the BOV, then you're venting the air into the atmosphere, that's what it means.

Re: Setup Questions

not to jack your thread. the guy that told me about the maft said that I can use it as a rough tune with it and to use my a-afc2 to fine tune. I only bought the gm-maf/maft is to tune my car, venting was just a plus. so basicly the guy that told me about it didnt know what he was talking about?

once again Im not trying to jack anyone's thread.

Re: Setup Questions

A big pain in the ass. IIRC Kevin said he spent hours doing it. On your setup its not worth it man.

Re: Setup Questions

If kevin spent hours doing it, expect youself to spend days or weeks trying to get it to run right. It's not hard to get it to work, but to fine tune it so it's dead on is a PITA.

Re: Setup Questions

yeah ive heard a lot of people complain that the gm maf translator doesnt get along very easily with dsmlink. real tough mod to tune. if you are just going with that moderate setup, then dont worry about it. as far as the evo 3 manifold, its bigger than a ported 2g stock manifold. that helps a lot with quicker spool-up. you can get it for like $150. i have basically the same mods you want, except i dont have link.

if you want to hear the bov "whoosh", follow the "hard bov recirculation" writeup, hook that up with your type s. i just did that, set my bov to "soft", and you can hear my bov very well. i dont even have to vent. then im tuned to 20psi perfectly with s-afc.

ps. - i just have one question for anyone, the only purpose of having a gm-maft is for running higher levels of boost than the stock maf will allow, correct?
