I own a taurus wagon which is making me nuts! It had a battery problem with starting which I replaced , now 3 weeks later It wont start agin now it sounds like it is going to turn over and wont, a mechanic had it hooked up to diagnostics and it keeps saying all is well.
He replaced the computer in it figuring that was a problem nope no luck .
He would love to get some feedback from others he is lost.

Re: 1997 ford taurus wagon help!

Welcome to the forum!

So, when you typed, "...it sounds like it is going to turn over and wont" does that mean that it cranks just fine, but won't start, or it attempts to crank but just makes a click and stops?

The mechanic should be able to tell you pretty quickly what is not working. Is the battery voltage low during the crank attempt? If it seems to crank just fine, just won't start, then immediately he should check for signs of spark. That is the quick one to check for. After that, check for fuel using a fuel pressure guage. If no fuel pressure, make sure the fuel pump inertia switch is not tripped and is providing voltage to the fuel pump. If the fuel pressure is fine, then make sure the air filter is not plugged. Check for injector pulsing using a scope or noid light set.

Your engine will need three things to start, proper compression, properly timed spark, and air/fuel mixture in the proper ratio.

If the car seems to have spark and fuel, then pull a couple of plugs and see if they are wet with fuel.

Once we have a few more of these details, we'll be able to help you/him zero in on the problem area.

Re: 1997 ford taurus wagon help!

Thank you for the welcome.

The car cranks just fine it just won't start.

He checked for sparks he has tested relays he is trying to get the car up and running.
When the problem first started I was on my way to work. I stopped to get a bite to eat when I got to the car it would start but stall after 2 seconds .We had the car towed to a friend's house and it sat there for awhile he thought it was the starter, before he pulled it out and did anything he went over and boom the car started for him with no problem.

Took it to advanced and they hooked the computer up told me it was the battery so, I took my car to wal-mart bought a new battery they installed the battery the car worked fine for 2 weeks.

I went to go to the store and the car started acting up again ,but this time it was differant the car started ran for 2 seconds then shut off. My mother tried, the car ran for a few seconds shut off then my step dad went to try and nothing we all let the car sit. Well at that point is when the car stopped turning over and just crank.
Then I went to the gas station got gas and put more in the tank nothing ,my mother my step father everyone I know has looked at it and can not figure it out.
The car will turn to the on position. The car will try to crank it just wont fully turn over. I had the car brought to the garage he has had the car and tested everything with the computer. He thought that it was the cars computer went and purched a new computer and nothing. He is thinking it is something with the wires everything else in the car is fine.
I tryed resetting the fuel pump switch located in the hatch of the car and still nothing the car is making us all crazy... If anyone has any idea please let us know..

The last message looks like the Unibomber's Manifesto. My mind starts glazing over after a few lines of no punctuation, capital letters, complete sentences and the like.

The guy has checked everything you asked about. He tested everything 10 times ,He wants to know if eletric or if wires are a problem in the 97 Taurus. He is still thinking that it is something with the wires.

When he had the old computer hooked up, the fuel injectors were not getting no spark. Now they are getting spark, But still no luck with it starting.

Re: 1997 ford taurus wagon help!

I'm with shorod here on the fuel pressure -- you said you tried resetting the fuel pump via the switch in the rear hatch, but did you actually have the fuel pressure checked? It could be (and sounds, though I know it could be a hundred other things, like) a faulty fuel pump. I'd replace the fuel filter (on general principles, I know most people seem to ignore this piece during maintenence) and then have the fuel pressure checked. If it's low, you could have a faulty line, pump, or any number of other problems. If it's the pump, it's a fix any mechanic should be able to do, so let them have at it. If it's not, at least you've removed that from the lineup of problems. But, if you haven't already, have the fuel pressure checked and replace that filter!

Good luck.
