Re: FirstCar

get a cheap, older car for your first car. when you are still learning, if you havent had a whole lot of driving experience, you will get in to accident, being at that age, you will have high insurance unless you have a lot of discounts. I know, i am 17, rolled one car and have been in 4 other accidents, a lot of kids your age up to 20+ get into a lot of accidents, get one with good saftey specs.

But that doesn't mean that you will get cheap insurance, since you are 15 it is a great idea to get good grades, it would have saved me another $105 every 6 months but I should have it by the next semester.

A b average usually, a 3.0 gpa or above, talk with your insurance company about any discounts you can get

Re: FirstCar

Mine is cheap because I get my parents discounts, they havent had any accidents in the last 5 - 10 years except my dad hitting a deer in his semi going to Omeha. That saves me about 150 - 200, i should soon have the good student discount, I had one for drivers ed and a saftey program, but the saftey program was dropped after my first accident. Its possible to go cheap even with an accident or two and a ticket

To receive discounts of parents it it is convenient! But you see it can become known sooner or later

Re: FirstCar

Whatever you get, make sure it's cool - you gotta like it - don't get some p.o.s. cause it's cheap - be proud of your ride dude. Someday, and forever, you'll be saying my first car was a....

One more thing...as a new driver, you are about to enter the most dangerous time of your life, so be careful out there. no really.

Re: FirstCar

learn its limits before you mod it, learn how to drive the car before you give it more power making it harder to control, i will need to relearn when i switch to a rear wheel drive car like the 240 i am looking for, it will help

Regardless of the car, get a manual and learn how to drive, see what the car is capable of and what it's limits are. An unmodded civic or saturn should be everyone's first car; you'd probably be happy with a CRX SI if you want a really sweet ride but it's hard to find one unmodded. I don't think you should mod your first car at all (may eliminate the civic from your list) cuz you won't know how to drive it and your first car should be a learning process of cars in general and the open road you're driving on. You got plenty of time in your life to get and make the ultimate modded 4-banger of your dreams or whatever your favorite cars are. I would say a saturn since they're cheap and probably the best car insurance-wise for people your age. And since the mods available for saturns seem to decrease everyday, you won't try to make and/or look like the fast car on the block (hopefully) like a lot of those rice idiots your age. I think you are gonna like ANY car that you choose since it's your first car and it's YOURS. Good luck, grasshopper

Re: FirstCar

I would have to say that the perfect first car would have to be somthing like a 92 or 93 Honda Civic Hatch back. Only for the reason that it looks cool, easy to drive, gets great gas milage and there are numerous after market parts for them. It's not going to blow the budget and you can pick one up for around 2-4 grand. Insurance will be cheaper becaue of the year and model. BTW a good student discount gave me a $200 break every 6 months.

I would't mod it out right away. LEARN TO DRIVE FIRST! If you want to mod the car wait for at least a year or two and start with the engine. Its every kids dream to deck the car out in stickers, spoilers, and rims and such, but a nice sleeper is a lot more fun.
