Unhappy 02 Grand Prix with extended crank

Hi I have a 2002 Grand Prix GT, with the 3.8 liter. This problem just started this morning. When you go to start the car it has an extended crank time, It doesn't matter if it is a cold start or a warm one. Once it starts, the RPM's go up to about 2000 then come back to normal. Other then that it runs and drives like normal. I am new to working on Pontiacs so anyone with some advice would be great. Thanks

Re: 02 Grand Prix with extended crank

Have you checked fuel pressure to see if in specs and how old is the fuel filter? One cause of extended crank time may be the fuel pressure regulator or insufficient fuel system pressure. Checking fuel pressure will confirm whether it is working properly. There is a Schrader valve where a pressure tester can be connected at the fuel pressure regulator located on the left hand side of the front fuel injector rail.

Also, high idle can be cause by a loose or bad vacuum line. Idle air controller (IAC) is another possibility.

Re: 02 Grand Prix with extended crank

It turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator.
