Applying for jobs online...........

Hey all, i went out today looking for places that were hiring, because i obv. need a job... soo i drove to about 5 or 6 different locations and EVERY one said i had to go home and apply online... sooo i wasted a quarter tank of gas for nothing, i was just wondering if anyone knows what the chances of my apps being seen are, and does anyone actually agree with online applying???

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

I dunno, but it seems realy stupid that they didn't have an application for you to fill out in person, especially at 5 different places. What has this world come to?

What kind of job are you looking for?

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

Where are you looking for jobs?

Different companies have different policies and it is effected by which target market you're looking in.

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

Apply online, then call and/or email follow up. Then apply again. Sticking with it and keeping on top of it will only help you.

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

You have to put some effort and thought into how to make your application stand out from the pack when it's online.

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

I filled some out about 2 years ago for Best Buy, Circuit City, and Jewel and I got called in for interviews for all 3 but ended up taking a job someplace else.

I have applied to over 15 bottle shops and stores online through the same company and still to this day (over 14 months ago) have not heard a single word back from them in either phone call, letter or email.

But I live in Sydney so its prob way different.

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

Keep in mind that for a lot of jobs, they're looking for a reason NOT to hire you, so it's a filtration process. The internet application just makes that easier. Good luck in your hunt.

Yeah, same deal in NZ. They don't ring you if they don't want you. Fucking rude.

no, same here in NY. You put in an application, and still never hear back unless you go there yourself... then they tell you positions are filled.

edit:
on topic: I applied online for a job at Coldstone Creameries, got a call for an interview within the week, and got the ok to work during the interview. (didn't take the job though)

Re: Applying for jobs online...........

It's usually helpful to go in and talk to the manager a few days later just to kind of speed things along. At least that's the way it's worked for me.

I think thats how it is most places. I've never gotten a call back from a job I didn't get in Florida or Chicago. With the one exception of Circut CIty which sent me a letter of rejection.

You should've worked at Coldstone! That way you could sing for tips like the rest of em... I HATE when employees are forced to sing to customers. If I want a concert I'll contact f'in ticketmaster. I just want a Love It sized strawberry shortcake and for you to shut your goddamn mouth! NO TIP FOR YOU!!!
