I am wondering if I swap the computer with a used one from the wrecking yard, is there anything special I have to do to the computer or car before installing it?

Nope, just swap them... but unplug your battery before disconnecting/connecting. Also, be sure the one you get is for an auto/manual... whichever is appropriate for your car.

So, since my car has a manual transmission, I have to get one from a car that has a manual transmission. Am I correct in assuming this?

A computer from a car with an auto transmission would work... but you may get error codes from it since it will think it is missing signals from the transmission. The car would run fine though.

Ok now I understand. Thanks for the help. I had heard somewhere that you had to do something to the computer before installing it. Must have been for some other type of car.
