Re: Montana Tranny Problem? rpm bounce
Is this when you are trying to accelerate slightly around 45 MPH?
I have that problem and I've been trying to figure out the cause. I think I'm going to take it to a good transmission guy I know. |

Re: Montana Tranny Problem? rpm bounce
It doesn't always happen. My wife said it didn't do it at all today. I notice it happens driving around town and on the highway. This damn thing has been nothing but trouble since we bought it. Always something going on with it....

Re: Montana Tranny Problem? rpm bounce
What happens with ours is also sporadic, but I've narrowed it down to this.
If you are on a nice level road going about 45-50, and you want to accelerate very slightly, not punch it, just move from say 45 to 47, it seems like the transmission gets confused and can't decide whether to downshift or stay in high gear, and it just pulsates. The tachometer bounces up and down and you can feel a pulsing. If you press down harder on the gas, it downshifts and everything is fine. This also happens when you are going about the same speed (45-50) and you start up a slight incline and you need to give it a little more gas. Take it for a drive in the country and see if that re-creates the problem. If so, I'll let you know what my transmission guy says. Maybe this will be enough to kick me into gear (no pun intended) to call him! |

Re: Montana Tranny Problem? rpm bounce
Harsh shifting may be a bad PCS look for a p1811 max adapt code set. Get it scanned a p1811 will not set a SES light. A bad PCS can cause the TCC to unlock/lock or not regulate properly.

![]() The only acronym I understood was SES for Service Engine Soon. What's a PCS and TCC? I sure don't want my PCS to lock my TCC. I think. |

I have a 2000 Montana which was doing the same thing, it turned out to be some sort of electronic solenoid switch which is in tranny. The part costs very little but there is a lot of labour, tranny has to come out. Of course it happened just outside my warranty period,
it cost around $850 to do.I hope this helps! |

Re: Montana Tranny Problem? rpm bounce
We had the same problem; hard shifting then overdrive went out. After it cooled down it would work again for a while then go out again.
Round one they replaced the TCC (torque cultch converter) solenoid & the PCM. Now it's doing it again and I'm tired of fighting with my service rep about it. I just rest the code and it stops for a while. I'll take it back again in a few weeks when I feel like arguing again. |
