'96 windstar,bumping noise
i have read so many of the other windstar owners with the front passenger clunking noise.i have been chasing it for a long time.it is my life's challenge.recent threads have talked about the tension strut bushing and broken weld.i was really looking today and i am pretty sure it is the tension strut where it passes through the sub frame.there is a square cut out on each side of subframe, but the inner cut out seems to have very little clearance for the tension strut not to bump it.just to experiment i cut a few inches of garden hose, split it and slid it onto the strut where it passes through.the noise is considerably less.i think i will look for a thicker and larger diameter hose to slide on.

Re: '96 windstar,bumping noise
Hello
I've had this problem on my 93 Windstar and on my 93 Taurus. It's really annoying. This is fixable with a wirefeed welder. I have a picture of mine welded up. PM me if you would like me to emial it to you. Regards Dan

Re: '96 windstar,bumping noise
If it turns out you need the weld and you are not a welder like me. Some years ago I replaced a floor pan in my old Rx 7 and called around and had a welder weld me a nice seam for about 20 bucks. Took him 15 min. seems the weld may not be as long as what I needed so if you call around you may get it done fairly cheap. hope this helps.
