Newbie**1995 Caviler**

I'll cut to the chace. My 1995 Cav, is suddenly running like a bag of @$@#.
Is there any way to check the ECM codes without my poor a$$ buying a scanner???? I used to be able to cross a couple terminals on my old car and get the codes???
Any help would be great....

Jet on over to a autozone or another up to date auto parts store in your area and they will check the codes for free.

No Autozone here, only NAPA and Canadian Tire .
I've never heard of free ECM testing????
I cant just cross some wires to get the code???

You being Canadian must be the problem. Where are these codes going to appear. Just magically float in the air when you touch the right wires together. All they do is plug the thing in. In doesnt take a lot of work. that is why they do it for free.

The older models you were able to crosswire the ecm and the code would blink on the dash.(Maybe its just Canadian Models)

Thank-you Muff34. I guess the OBD II readers actually read the code instead of allowing the vehical to blink the check engine light like morse code. I was hoping to be able to check it at home....... Here they want over a hundred bucks to plug it in, tell you whats wrong, and clear the codes.....

ya that kind of bites. I had a code reader for my `91 sunbird ,just looked at the book and it only covers up to 93 Cavy`s so cant help you.. did you read that link I posted? I read your first post about jumping and that one reply about codes magically appearing and thought Hmmm ,kind of rude and I know that I have read somewhere on AF that it could be done,couldn`t find it tho and had to google search it.

every chrysler made between 1970 something till 2001 does this: you turn the ignition back and forth 3 times, on the third leave it in the on position, the check engine light blinks so many times, certain amount of blinks for certain codes, no wire crossing though.... man i miss my reliant
