New Cars Piss Me Off

why are there no decently priced, classicly styled, RWD, 4-5 speed cars out there on the market.

seriously, if i want an automatic, i'll buy a buick, or i'll check the option box to get one. I WANT A MANUAL.

i looked around online, and there are almost no 07' cars that offer RWD and a manual tranny.
the closest the dodge charger gets is an autostick.
magnum and 300C too. even in the SRT-8 trim, the best you can get is an autostick.

dont even get me started on chevy.
they dont have anything anymore that is even worth buying.

of course if you think chevy is bad, ford is like... worse.

the 83-86 impala SS, or 84 caprice 2 door is along the lines of what i am looking for.
i even found a company that will convert them to a manual.

85-87 camaro is close too. great styling and mechanical stuff, but a little too flashy. i like sleepers.

i found someone who converted a mid 80s Shelby Charger (fwd) to RWD.
that would be cool.

closest car i can find is the crossfire, but only if you can convince yourself that you dont want the biggest engine and SRT-6 trim (an auto is the only choice if you want SRT-6)

am i missing something???

WTF!!!

Re: New Cars Piss Me Off

hey hey hey, chill, cars are just going through a transition, that's all. The Monte carlo SS is pretty good, if you can deal with the FWD. The Mustang V6doesn't have a 5 speed? The GTO is really good but i hate how it looks. The Caddy CTSs are amazing, atleast I think so.

Think of it this way, there's been a lot of technological advances with cars int he last 20 years and there's always good stuff coming along.

Mustang GT, Pontiac GTO (2006), Cadillac CTS-v (Prolly too expensive, but still...)

Honestly the GTO is everything you asked for...

Re: New Cars Piss Me Off

I think Grey Goose was after a 'classically styled' car. Folks in the 'States don't think the GTO is a 'classically styled' car - after all it's a Monaro and based on the Holden Commodore. Australian cars tend to have reasonably well proportioned cars with good surfacing (the new VE and the Territory being good examples) - unfortunately, critics in the US panned the GTO as not being 'masculine' or enough like the old GTOs... From memory, the last GTO that came from the US had huge overhangs and handled like a barge... and the US gave us wonderfully styled cars like the Pacer, Edsel, Town Car and Taurus... but then Australia gave us the AU Falcon and the Buick influenced VP Commodore...

well its the closest thing i can find. i actually almost like the GTO.

If you are from europe, you might know what car i'm talking about.
i think it was a Vauxhaul Monaro VXR
it was big and red (in the picture i saw).
it had minor grey body cladding, and a wing on the back.
each front fender had grey vents.
engine was from a corvette.
0-60 in under 5 sec.
manual tranny, and RWD.
thats the car i want whatever it was.

Re: New Cars Piss Me Off

ummm, a Vette? it's sort of classically styled as it doesn't follow normal supercar design and sticks to traditional design. how about the Camaro and Challanger concepts? comin' out soon, and they're both very retro. Ford GT? (not that you're ever going to afford one) The MX-5? styling hasn't really changed in like forever. Same with the s2000. given they're not classics, but they're old.

The GTO is off the hook for the price. And if you know how to wheel and deal the dealer you can get one for very cheap. I'd be willing to bet I could walk out of a dealer with one fully loaded for well under $25K.

I hate FWD cars. I can't stand the way they drive and feel. I wish they had more RWD options available in the compact/sub-compact range. It would be like little go-carts.

Re: New Cars Piss Me Off

The Monaro you are talking about is a fairly common sight in Australia/NZ, it's called the HSV Coupe GTO (270 Kw)/GTS (300 Kw), the body kits should be an easy find in Australia or New Zealand for not too much money (Aside from shipping of course)

These are the ones you are thinking of...

Earlier VX/VY (LS1) models- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...n-73676299.htm

Later VZ (LS2) models- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...p-21685876.htm

no, thats not it.
it was definately its own brand (make? model? whatever)
i wish i could remember what it was.
i saw it in a comparison test in EVO magazine.
it was up against a TVR griffith and i believe a corvette if that helps.

Re: New Cars Piss Me Off

Well the Pontiac GTO was designed and is built in Victoria, Australia. It's based on Holden Commodore spinoff called a Monaro and is coupe version of it. The HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) derivatives appears as the Vauxhall Monaro VXR and as the Pontiac GTO and feature the LS1. Originally, there was even a V6 model using a Buick Derived pushrod six!

Most folk who have seen one simply assume it didn't come from Australia - after all we make meat pies and farm kangaroos..
