91 Sonoma Electronic Dash Display

My son has a 91 GMC Sonoma with the electronic display on the dashboard. Awhile back, the speedometer began randomly flashing on and off without any rhyme or reason. The gauges have always worked fine and continue to do so. Recently the speedometer has failed completely creating obvious problems. One other portion, possibly the tachometer, has also followed the behavior pattern of the speedometer and has now also failed completely. Any suggestions on where to start?

This is a common problem on the s10 series truck with the digital display. I have a s15 jimmy and my brother in law's is a s15 truck with a similar problem. Mine is intermittent and his has no display. You can buy a replacement display on ebay for about $125 usd. Unless you know someone that is really good at fixing electronics and get him to repair it for you there is not much else I can do to help you out. I am looking for a repair schematic to repair mine, if I do I will let you know what to look for on the electronics side.

Hi Guys,
I have a Jimmy 93 with the same problem, the dash goes out intermitently, i found some bad solders, was looking good after reslodering but goes out the day after... it should be a very small trouble but i have to find it !!!

When i'll find, i'll let you know.

The intermittent problem has become more consistent. I plan to tear into this as soon as our weather warms up here in Nebraska. Thanks to all for the replies, I will forward on anything new discovered.
