Tamiya 1/24 Ferrari F40

Time to get back to cars after a long break from car modelling

This is quite an old kit and there is a fitting problem for the back cover as below.. about 2mm difference for the chasis.

To rectify this, I saw off the bottom chasis and aligned with pin by drilling holes to the 'tubes'

To speed things up.. I use super glue gel with accelerator as 'putty' to secure the joining area.

(Will need to sand even later)

Fit problem rectified.

Thats funny, I built this kit years ago and dont remember such fit issues.
Are you sure the upper part of the engine cover is in the right position?.... not warped?.
Looking good though, keep it up
Regards, Dan

Even after I remove the 'projection' on both side, there is still a gap... strange..

The normal Tamiya 'Italian Red'
I need to get the hang of polishing red.

Not bad, I would like to do an F-40 sometime though there are a few hard to find Ferrari's that I would like to make. Keep up the good work.

Nice work so far, can't wait to see how it turns out. Always love to see a red F40.

Re: Tamiya 1/24 Ferrari F40

This is a weird problem you've got there, I don't have that on my kits.

I would be wary of the possibility you might run into further issues when you install the engine and subassemblies, as well as with the alignment of the rear suspension.

Haven't tried this version although I have done the Italeri - the fit problems you mention are also brought to light in Alex Kustov's review at

Re: Tamiya 1/24 Ferrari F40

I agree with being careful for the rest of the build. I dry fitted mine after I saw this and it has no issues where yours does?!?!?!

Nice detail work on the engine.

How does it all fit now after your modification to the rear chasis?

Re: Tamiya 1/24 Ferrari F40

After spray can TS- 8 and gloss coated, wet sand to remove some orange peel.

Polish with Nuvus No.2

Ok.. now need to clean away the access rubbing compound with water and old toothbrush.
