1982 F-150 carburetor problems

I have a 1982 f-150 with carburetor problems that has stumped the mechanic. This summer it started to leak lots of gas at the base of the carburetor. I took it to a mechanic. He said that the float was crushed and rebuilt the carb. It ran good for about two days and started leaking again. I took it back to the mechanic and he replaced the fuel pump because he thought it was pushing to hard. That didnt fix the problem. I then bought a new carburetor and put it on. It ran good for about two days again. Then it started flooding and gas would pour out the base of the carburetor. Please help me.

Which engine and carb do you have. There were several different carbs used back then, some more prone to flooding problems than others. Does the truck run ok when its not flooding? Has it backfired at all, or right before the flooding started? If it has an autolite, or holley 2bbl, or 4bbl, a backfire can blow out the power valve and cause flooding. Even though you put a fuel pump on it, have the mechanic check the fuel pressure with a gauge. It should be around 5-6psi, anything from 4-8 is ok. Check for trash in the carb. All it takes to make one flood is a piece the size of a grain of sand. I assume you put a new fuel filter. If you still have the original steel line from the pump to the carb, ckeck it for rust on the inside. Flakes of rust can cause one to flood.
