Supercharger Question..
What are some of the things to expect or look for when a supercharger is going bad?

You may hear a rattle from the coupler, this is a relatively inexpensive fix. Failure of the snout seal is another as you will see oil coming from the pulley area. You may start to hear some grinding. This usually indicates that the bearings are going. Failure of the supercharger to produce full boost is also an indicator of something going wrong. Of course if it seizes then that is a pretty good indication that it has gone bad. lol

The warranty has expired unless this is a new supercharger. The snout seal is probably leaking. You can purchase the seal from several vendors. If it is only leaking a little bit, clean the area and keep an eye on the level. To check the level there is a plug on the front of the supercharger where the shaft comes back into the casing. You should see it easily since it is black and not the same color as the rest of the housing. The plug is removed using an allen wrench. To check the oil remove the plug and look at the level. You may want to stick your finger into the hole and if there is no oil on it the level is too low. Actually you should see the oil when you pull the plug. If it is low add oil.

Another question to piggyback off of this one...The dealership recommends a Supercharger oil change at 30K. I just reached that and found out that the S/C oil change is $125! Does this sound right?

Fuuuuckkk thattt! You can DIY, it'll cost ya bout 20 bucks for the oil and somethin to siphon out the old oil with. Prolly a procedure around here somewhere....

Purchase a turkey baster and a small piece of plastic hose that will fit over the end. Needs to be about 3-4 inches long and can be purchased at a home center. Remove the plug and suck the old oil out of the supercharger. Be careful, this stuff stinks. Remove as much as you can and refill with two bottles of GM supercharger oil. You can purchase it for around $10 per bottle from PFYC.com or ZZP.com. Replace the plug and happy motoring!!!

Thanks guys! I'll do that this weekend. $16 off of PFYC is a lot better than $125 to the dealer! What else should I do at 30K? Trans Fluid exchange?

I have a K&N box filter that I clean. It's only been about 2000 miles since it's last cleaning. I think I'll have the trans fluid exchanged next week anyways. Thanks, Brick
