Finalizing Head please help...

Okay some of you may know I have been waiting to build my head. I finally have all the funds and I am ready to start pampering my dsm. I wanted to put DKS 272s into the head but, I read a post advising against them. I talked to a shop and they told me that if I supply all the parts(springs, retainers, valves, guides, seals, locks, cams, lifters, ect.) The guy told me he can do all the maching(hot tank, resurface, spiffy up), install everything, and give me a 5 angle valve job for $500. He also said I can gasket match the exhaust/intake for an additional $150 per side. I don't think I am going to port it at all though because I really don't think I'll need it. My final goal is to hit somewhere around 550-600 at the crank on a built 2.0 6 bolt block(later down the road). Any suggestions on what I should drop my money into? I was planning on going with crower springs and I am still not sure on the valves though. BTW I am going with the Titan copper head gasket, installing a new water pump, installing new timing accesories(tensioner/belt), and installing all new gaskets(intake/mani-head, mani-turbo). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Finalizing Head please help...

If your doing the 5 angle job you might as well port out your intake and exhaust sides too... I'm not doing any of that though just because I don't think I really need to. Its not like I'm building a 9 second car... yet. lol

Haha yeah, so what would you suggest? Just stock size valves? What valves do you plan on going with?

Re: Finalizing Head please help...

I am going with crower springs and retainers, stock valves, 3g lifters, and FP 272's with a Cometic headgasket...

Re: Finalizing Head please help...

Damn, that's a good price. $500 for all the work? Shit, a place around here wanted $95 an hour for the work, about 7 hours for all the work.

Stock valves are fine. I'm getting a 3-angle job and standard size. 420a is a little different head, so cams and all are different. I'm getting a full port job and all, for turbo, I would recommend it also. More flow the better, right?

I say, if you're going to do something, get it done right. Meaning do everything.

gasket matching isnt shit. you could do it yourself in about 30 min with a dremmal. i would never pay that much for something so simple.....

If you're home porting a head, then home gasket matching isn't that tough, but it's a big difference between the finish on a professional job and a home port job.

If you're getting it all done by the same guy, I'd just have him do everything right now and get it done with. And if you want 550-600 crank, then you'll need all the flow you can get to spool up that big turbo
