Quad 4

Hi guys,
I have a 95 GA 5spd with a quad 4, it's just about to roll over the 250000km mark and I was wondering what kinda of maintenance i should be thinking about. I'm gonna change the plugs, and flush the coolant before winter, but im sure that more work would help her out.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Quad 4

You may want to consider a new fuel filter, change the tranny fluid and filter, spark plug boots and put on a new serpentine belt.

not all too sure about the transmission fluid being changed out... well at least not flushed, bad idea . You can do a transmission filter change (This will just drain the fluid and/or remove anything caught in the filter, thus new and old debre removed caught in filter) New transmission fluid added and almost like new

Also you could always do fuel system cleaner after the new fuel filter is installed to run though anything else... Normally when I run cleaner I buy the best kind I can find that'll do everything. And I run it from half a tank or less with 93oct. Maybe even with fuel injector cleaner concentrate. 1 bottle of each and half a tank to 1/4th of 93oct will do. It will burn the fuel faster but, its a nice cleaning of the fuel system. You want to put more than 1 bottle of each into the tank, could cause some problems. But doing this about once a week in 2 weeks or more will help out gas milage, and the effeciency of the car.

If you're good under the hood, you could also buy some throttle body cleaner. Whatever brand works, normally priced $3 a can. You can remove the intake hosing from the throttle body and open up the throttle and spray all around and spray down the throttle as well. Im not sure where its located on a quad 4 ... but if its facing up to where nothing can leak out, you might want to have the car running. When you go to open the throttle it'll rev the car and a lot more cleaner would have to be used to make sure its being put through.

Re: Quad 4

You might also want to change the timing chain, depending on how often the oil has been changed. I replaced mine at 237k miles with no signs of wear on the guides or tensioner and synthetic oil every 15k miles. I helped a friend change his, 102k miles, infrequent oil changes, guides worn down to the end of their service life and the tensioner wasn't looking all that great either.
