when should i shift?

Me and my dad just built a 2.0 n/t stroker. heres a mods list,

injen intake,k&n filter, eagle 4g64 6-bolt crank, custom 10-1 pistons,300cc injectors W/ fuel controller, all bearings are crower or sealed power, turbo intake cam, ported head and intake manifold, ported 1g n/t throttle body with egr block off on intake manifold, pace setter full exhaust 2.5, and theres some more mods.

im not sure what its gonna dyno at or what the quarter mile times will be, but i did keep up the whole race with my dad driving my other stock gst with a
14b. My question is when should i shift some people say i needa shift sooner then a stock, when i shift at 4500-5000 it seems like im really shifting at 7000rpms what gives?

Re: when should i shift?

did you mess with the trans at all? now im no expert but i think that if you beefed up all those internals then you should be fine shifting at 7k. maybe even 7500 - 8k. dont drive like that all the time though, normal driving just shift at like 3k or 4k.

if the different ratio pistons change anything then i have no clue.

oh and congrats on the rebuild.

Re: when should i shift?

maybe it wants you to get a turbo dsm.

id imagine the engine would be a little bit louder, you have big things going on in there. plus, its .4 more liters of exhaust coming out. ill bet that it will quiet down a little after a couple hundred miles. does that engine break-in thread have anything to do with engine rebuilds too? if so, or somewhat, change the oil a couple times too.

Re: when should i shift?

4g64 crank in a 2.0 block = 2.3. I would rev it to 7 and not much farther. A stock car not setup for power up there isnt going to make much up there.

Re: when should i shift?

The only way to find out is to try several different shift points at the track. Way back in the day I found that going to 7k in first on the stock t25 but then only 6500 or 6k in the other gears was worth a worth tenths in the ET and a few mph.

Also, even the 2.4 is not a 2.4. It's a 2.35 which rounds up. A 2 liter with a 100mm stroke bored 060 is the exact same thing with "short" pistons and a 6mm lower deck, for anyone that was wondering. 2.3, 2.4, who gives a fuck.
