Which is better (MR2, RX-7, Eclipse)

Hello,
I've been researching these three cars and wondering which engine 3SGTE, 13B, or 4G63 has the most potential for the stock internals? I'm aiming at least getting 400hp to the crank. Thanks

Only answer is the 4G63. Not just because I own one.

A 13B? Is this a joke? Only if its been rebuilt/upgraded.

3SGTE, Toyota's are good quality, but I haven't heard too much about this one in the US, not followed like the other two.

The 4G63 is one of the most overbuilt 4 cylinders ever produced, an AWD DSM can run 12's for a small investment, producing roughly 350hp/350ft. lbs. Its a torquey motor. If taken care of they can go for 200,000 miles. Check out DSM.org, DSMtuners.com, etc.

Good luck.

The 13B all the way, rotarys are awesome engines! There is no comparison between the three, the RX7 takes the win easy.

Mr2...Midengine rear wheel drive. The others can really compare. Not even the Gsx with it's awd. The Mr2 is lighter, more stable, and has a better weight distribution thanks to the mid-engine setup. Goot turbo setup too, on good internals, can get you some really decent power

Well, this thread has a few ignorant opinions!

Here are my thoughts.

MR2: If it is a new MR2, don't waste your money unless you plan to do an engine swap or waste money on building the internals. If it is one of the older All Trac turbo MR2s, then I would say go for it.

RX-7: Don't bother unless you like spending a lot of money for gas and repair bills and like smelly exhaust. The RX-7s engine has too much port overlap allowing exhaust to be in the combustion chamber when the rotor comes around to fire. This caused the car to stall at idle so they compensated by using more fuel at idle. This also makes for bad air in the combustion area, never good. It also makes for stinky exhaust fumes. I also hear that the RX-7 is a handful to work on and you have to work on them a lot, namely seals I hear.

Eclipse: The 4G63 is a GREAT engine to work with namely the first gen engines and third gen engines from 1998 - 1999. They can take a good amount of boost on the stock internals and they have a huge amount of aftermarket. They are also reliable engines as well. The 4G63 is nothing to laugh at. Also check out the build up guide in this months Sport Compact Car. It is a great guide on how to build up and tune your 4G63, VERY informative. Also that info can be related to other engines and applications.

My choice is the 4G63 without a shadow of a doubt!

Theres an eclipse gsx that drag races in America, His name is Jhon Shperard, his car runs 9.3 in the street class, I hav'nt seen any mr2's that can touch that.

Altough the mr2 engine IS very reliable, in jgtc, one of the teams that runs a supra uses the mr2 engine and makes 500 reliable HP. They can easily make more but it wouldnt be reliable any more, so...

Didn't mention that is was FASTER, but unless you plan on running a 9.3, it'll probably just AS FAST

The fastest mr2 Ive seen ran 11.7, it was back in 96, he had to change transmissions after every 3 runs.

I'm with you Integra. MR2 only has a straight-4. Eclipse has that beat easily...

I think blueyabby lost his mind or somthing.

Id go with the 13B with a single turbo conversion, and 3mm apex seals.
The Eclipse is only a four cylinder too, SupercarMan.
