trans troubles

my trans just started to do this last week. when i put it in drive or any gear it takes a few seconds to engage and its starting to stop working. it feels like im in neutral when i stop the car and try to go again without putting it in park. any ideas??

It may be too late, but first check the TV Bushing. If you let it go too long, which may be already, it's trannie rebuild time.
