ignition problems

so got everything to gether on the car. went to start it... nothing. shit! check grounds. not grounded . fuck! try again... nothing. check everything, go have a smoke, thenm realized duh kill switch . damnit! ok ready again... nothing. check spark and fuel. they're good. try again nothing. fucking s.o.b! check valvetrain. valves are way the fuck to tight. adjust valves. try again... dead battery. shit! mother fucker! get new battery, try again... it starts. rough as fuck idle. bad gas. spiderwebs burning off the exhaust. shut it off. then sparyed water on the underside to stop the burning webs. push it a mile to the gas station. put new 91 in it. took 10 gallons. yeah $25 bucks later. NO START! fuck!

so i narrowed it down to the ignition. the battery is good the dizzy is brand new from distributor king. the plugs and wires are only 4k miles old. why won't it start? could my wires be bad from sitting for 4 months? or is there something wrong with the dizzy?

we had it running for like 10 minutes why won't it start now?

Re: ignition problems

1. compression test the motor, make sure it's healthy
2. set block to tdc and make sure the cam gears are lined up with the marks.
3. gap plugs to stock specs
4. ignition timing - advance the distributor all the way to the back, see if it wants to start better, if not, then retard the distributor (towards the front of the car) and see if that makes it want to start.
5. no check engine lights? pull back the carpet anyway to see if the LED is blinking.

Try these and get back to me. Personally, it sounds like the compression is too low or the cam timing is off.

Re: ignition problems

90civicrider-
the fuel pump hums it clicks, goes urgh urgh urgh like it's going to start and then kinda does for a split second. does this over and over in a predictable pattern.

bambam-
no check engine light. no blinking lights.

the rotating the dizzy back helps. seems better if it's in the middle.

plugs come pregapped. i went ahead and checked them they are good.

is it going to have compression when the rings aren't seated yet?
i'll check it tomarrow though.

i will also set it back to TDC tomarrow.

Yes, it will still have compression as long as cam timing (belt lined up) is correct. Set it back to TDC? It should already be at TDC. Make sure you are using the right mark on the crank pulley.

Re: ignition problems

well the belt and crank and the cams are all lined up at tdc but they are not pointed up, 'cause we tried to turn to motor over.
