Oil Leak

well guys, i think my lincoln is starting to really show signs of giving out on me, not to mention that when it shift from first gear into 2nd gear when i gun it to get on the highway, its almost like the car jumps forward between shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, almost giving me a nasty whiplash, but that isn't my concern right now. but if you can tell me what that is too, that would be nice.

what my concern is i have been seeing oil spots under my car in the driveway and i pinpointed a oil leak. it seems to be coming from behind a pulley. if you were facing the car looking under the hood, it is leaking from behind a pulley on the right side towards the bottom of the front of the motor. i'm not sure if it is the oil pump or not. the car runs on a belt fan and like i said: right side, towards bottom of engine..HELP!

Right side front, facing the engine (drivers side)? with a pulley... hmmm.

That has to be the power steering pump. The oil filter adapter plate is in that vicinity, but it's around the corner on the side of the block.

That transmission problem sounds like a sticking fluid valve... you are running with the Lubegard Red, all those valves should be working freely by now

the transmission is fine now i finally got a chance to flush it. i was thinking that power steering pump was leaking but i haven't notice and problems with the steering or any fluid loss in the reservoir.

I would use some cleaner and clean around the oil pan gasket area and other areas prone to leakage. When it is on jack stands watch it while it is running. A leaking front seal will sling oil. After you find it you can decide on repairs.

your right, it is a seal. i did exactly what you said and i let the engine run and there was nothing. however, when i shut the engine off i saw a very very small drop of oil weep out behind the pulley after about 20 minutes. i'm going to guess that what is happening is that since this car is driven on the highway so much, the seal reseals itself and with contraction and expansion, it is always resealing itself and then creating a very small leak when the engine gets a chance to cool down. i think i'm going to just live with this until it gets worse because the leak is so small that when i change the oil every 3000 miles, there is barely any oil missing (since it doesn't burn oil either). but basically, this car has 194,000 miles and i replaced just about everything. i guess this leaky seal is next (eventually).

With your engine mileage when you change the seal buy a repair kit seal,repair ring and timing cover gasket. These are thin covers that go over the crank and rides under the seal. As you have done 90% of the work install a new timing chain while your at it. A good days work without air wrenchs but not real expensive.

ok thank you very much. i will let you know how I make out. i plan to do this sometime over the christmas holidays.
