U-joint replacement

'93 S-10 4.3L extended cab. I need to check out the u-joints in this machine, but with those springloaded balls pushing on the joints makes it difficult to access the problem. Need advise. Can these be changed by me without a whole lot of problems?

what are we talking about? drive shaft? front c\v shafts on a 4wd? spring loaded balls?
