'97 gr. voyager "MIL OFF"

tranny replaced on '97 gr. voyager 3.0l @ 160k. I took the van for emissions / inspection after approx. 120 miles and emissions could'nt be completed because PCM has not reset after battery disconnected, "MIL OFF". I was told this would only take 25-50 miles. Does anyone know how long and is there anything I can do?

Re: '97 gr. voyager "MIL OFF"

Welcome aboard! Haynes manual says (after changing a transmission) "The current trouble code (DTC) will have to be reset to the start of break-in by the dealer or transmission service shop using a DRB scanner and scan tool cartridge to read or reset the status". Also says to recalibrate the TCM after a transmission and/or torque converter change, a "Quick Learn" has to be done by the dealer or shop using the same DRB scanner.

I know most Autozone stores will read and reset trouble codes with a DRB scanner for you for free. They may do the "Quick Learn" too. Call them.

If you're saying you're getting a code 12 (battery disconnected in last 50 key cycles) then you got me. I've had a code 12 set on my van forever and it passes smog checks every other year. Doesn't give me a Check Engine Light as it's designed not to.

If transmission was just replaced take it back and have them reset the pcm.
Quick learn and pion factor and all of that good stuff.
Does it have any stored codes or have you had the battery disconnected or is the battery weak?

Re: '97 gr. voyager "MIL OFF"

the pcm has a task manager program and it monitors all the OBD2 system or circuits and all the OBD2 circuits must have run the program before they can verify if the van has passed the emmision test they need to check some of these monitors have specific parameters before this program will run and check the circuit egr needs testing and o2 sensors and catalist effeciency must be tested and so on some times this takes some driving to meet these criterias as speed and temperature and throttle position have a role in these parameters
