No Rear Heat

For some reason, only cool air blows from the rear vents, no matter what I adjust the settings to, using front or rear controls. The front heater works fine. I was wondering if anyone knew how the heat runs to the rear, are there there heater hoses and a heater core back there, some kind of valve somewhere, etc?
Its not like its ice cold in the van with the front heat working normally, but I do have 2 young children and I'd like to be able to keep the rear warmer for them. Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

Re: No Rear Heat

KJ,

I believe there are separate heater hoses to the back heater core. I believe they come in & out under the van behind the second row of seats and on the left side of the van. I think there are two sets of hoses - one for the AC & one for the heater core. The high pressure ones are for the AC.

Take a look under there when the van is warmed up and feel the heater hoses to see if they are warm (or hot).
If they are HOT, I would say you have an air flow problem (coolant is flowing through the rear heater core).
If they are NOT hot, I would say you are having a coolant flow problem (NOT flowing through the core).

Let us know what you find and we can proceed from there.

Take Care,

Re: No Rear Heat

I have the same problem on my 98trans sport. No rear heat.

I checked mine, there are only pipes for the heater so no rear a/c on mine.

What I found was when the van was warmed up the pipes got very hot right up to where they enter the rear unit. I took off the little access panel and could see where the pipes entered but that's a far as I went with it.

Looking at it... It looks like the whole interior side panel has to come off to get access to the rear heater core !?

The fan blows strong out the rear vents, only cool though.

Re: No Rear Heat

Thanks GregA, I'll check on it as soon as I can. My wife drives the van everyday and we work opposite shifts (her days, me nights) so it might be a couple days til I can check it out, unless I want to do it at 1 or 2 in the morning.
