Cool Hasegawa 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432R

Not much to say about this curbside kit but "Bravo". It's the most accurate looking Z car I've ever seen in 1/24 scale. It built like a dream, start to finish only took about 8 1/2 hours. Nice details, including metal transfers, though the seatbelt decals weren't wonderful; aftermarket belts would be better. Hasegawa could only improve this model of a rare factory spec-racer by adding full engine detail; this car used a 4 valves per cylinder, 3 carbs, and 2 cams engine from a Skyline. It was built completely OOB for a magazine review that's in the latest Scale Auto Magazine.

A pic of the chassis before final assembly:

Rock for the Z!
What are your thoughts on how the Hasegawa kit compares with the Fujimi kit?

How did you detail the taillights? Is the chome trim molded into the lense, ie is there a "channel" to blackwash or is it completely flat?

Love the exhaust, very exotic!

I don't have the Fujimi kit, but I have looked at them before and I found a few built on the 'net while researching, and there are shape issues w/the Fujimi kit around the headlights. Not that the Fujimi is bad, but Hasegawa got the subtleties of design so right. This kit could easily have been made by Tamiya, that's how well it's done. I'd love it if Hasegawa took this basic kit and made a LHD 240Z variant.

The taillight bases are chrome w/the splitter, the lenses are separate. I used a .005 black pigment liner pen to blacken the channel in the chrome splitter.

Nice build! I didn't know that this model has the same engine than the gt-r skyline. Since this has such a good detail level You could add the engine from the nostalgic tuner parts pack (was it fujimi? or aoshima I don't remember). But great job!

Re: Hasegawa 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432R

Very nice, very clean! Gorgeous work. Perhaps a mashup of this kit and the Tamiya Skyline of that vintage would yield a good full detail model? The engine bays were pretty spartan, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. Keep sharing your amazing work!

Orange Z's are as nauseatingly common as red Ferraris

Couldn't find anything definitive of the color(s) offered on the Z432R (there's precious little on the 'net as to it's history, and nobody answered my plea for help), so I went with a fantasy team that painted theirs silver before slapping on the numbers and going racing. I just couldn't paint mine orange. Just like I can't paint any Ferrari red
