'92 pathfinder se keeps dying

Started bucking and trying to die about 2 mos. ago. I was able to keep it going, figured it was the fuel filter. I put gas treatment in the tank, kept the tank from getting too low on fuel. It seemed to be ok, other than being sluggish. The other day I let the fuel light come on and when I took a right hand corner, (for some reason, it seems to be worse when I make a right hand turn!), it bucked, died. I had it towed home. Replaced the fuel filter. While I had the filter off I turned the key to the on position and fuel was pumped out, so I figuered the pump was ok. I then took it for a test and to put more fuel and some fuel system cleaner in the tank. I never got to the gas station. It was fine as long as I was I was stopping at stop signs and not giving it alot of gas. As I was getting on the freeway and making a hairpin turn doing so, and came out of the turn and gave it alot of gas it died again. I took my foot off the gas and left it in gear w/ the clutch out trying to compression start it. No go. Had to have it towed home again. Does this sound like fuel pump problem now? My past experience w/ fuel pumps is that when they go, they just stop all together..........

Re: '92 pathfinder se keeps dying

It could be a number of things. 1 is check your air filter. That shouldn't cause your truck to dye so much, but it could help a lot in this situation. 2 give your pathfinder a tune up. It doesnt cost a whole lot, and it is pretty easy to do. Just get some sparck plugs, wires, distrubutor cap and rotor. 3 maybe it could be your pvc valve. I dont know if the 92 pathfinders have this or not, but I know my 95 pathfinder does. I dont think its your fuel pump that much, because like you said, it either runs or it dosent. Changing the fuel filter was a good idea, because my pathfinder had some of the same symptoms yours has and getting a new fuel filter fixed about 60% of the problem.

Re: '92 pathfinder se keeps dying

Before doing all that and having nothing change, I'd pull up the carpet in the cargo area and open the little round hatch to access the fuel pump. Check all the wiring, it's fairly common for it to corrode or become loose over time.
