tps problems?

i've been having a few problems with my car lately, and my dad seems to think its the tps sensor. I read on the internet that it should read 0.5v when closed, and 5v when open. I went and checked mine just now, and when its closed, it reads 0.57v-0.58v. Is that a little high? And wide open, it reads 4v, not 5v. Is my TPS bad?

It was a bit from the movie "Office Space"

Have you confirmed that it is the TPS sensor? Typically if its bad it will be throwing a code that you can have checked.

Re: tps problems?

i'm not sure if it is the problem or not. But no check engine light comes on. See, at times the car tends to idle really high, and then its hard on the transmission when down shifting. And then at times, it tends to drop in rpms, as if its going to stall, then shoots back up again.
